Senators Coram and Lee, co-prime sponsors,
introduced Senate Bill 20-070, concerning penalties for traffic offenses,
and distributing money collected from a traffic violation to the county
in which the violation occurs. The bill increases the presumptive
ranges of fines for traffic offenses, as well as other fines and surcharges.
The bill requires that 25 percent of fines collected for traffic
misdemeanors and 50 percent of the fine collected for traffic infractions
be transmitted to the county where the violation occurs. Counties
may use the funds for traffic safety improvement, enforcement, and prosecution.
The bill also changes the classification of certain traffic offienses.

Senate Bill 20-094, concerning the imposition of additional plug-in electric
motor vehicle registration fees by the High Performance Transportation
Enterprise (HPTE), making the total amount of registration fees imposed
on such vehicles roughly equal to the combined amount of registration fees
and motor fuel taxes imposed on vehicles powered by internal combustion
engines. The fees will be credited to the Statewide Transortation
Enterprise Special Revenue Fund for use by the HPTE in funding surface
transportation infrastructure.
