Representative Lee, sponsor, presented Senate Bill 17-183, concerning the authority for the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to make grants related to the USS Colorado. The bill requires the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DVMA) to make grants in support of the USS Colorado, a nuclear submarine expected to be commissioned in 2017. The grants will be used for the following purposes: to pay for expenses related to the commissioning of the USS Colorado; to promote awareness of the USS Colorado within the state; and to support the crew of the USS Colorado. Representative Lee distributed a fact sheet regarding the bill (Attachment A). Representative Lee responded to questions from the committee regarding the appropriations needed for the bill.
